On the lookout for a summer camp that combines outdoor fun, a dash of creativity, and a whole lot of excitement? Then look no further than Highlander Summer Day Camp. Designed for students entering PK-6th grade, our weekly Day Camp has been making waves since it was introduced in 2019, and trust us when we say it’s a summer experience like no other.

Fostering Camp Connections

Picture this: a vibrant mix of sunshine, laughter, and a bunch of eager faces ready for a day filled with adventure. That’s the essence of Highlander Summer Day Camp. Our Day Camp was designed to cater to campers who want to participate in a wide variety of activities and outdoor adventures. And, unlike our Specialty Camps, Day Camp accepts campers on a rolling basis – so you always have a spot here!

Now, let’s break down the Day Camp structure. We’ve got four main groups, affectionately called cabins, to suit every camper’s age and interests. From the Tiny Tartans (Pre-K) to the seasoned Upper Camp (4th-6th graders), each cabin has its own Senior Counselor, often a Lake Highland Alumnus, a Junior Counselor (graduating seniors gearing up for college), and a couple of spirited high school volunteers known as Counselors-in-Training (CITs).

On top of that, we have Activity Specialists, usually LHP teachers and coaches, who run over 25 different indoor and outdoor activities. It’s a perfect mix that ensures every camper feels seen, heard and gets the hands-on attention they deserve.

A Day in the Life of a Day Camper

So, what’s a typical day at Highlander Summer Day Camp like? Spoiler alert: it’s a lot of fun. Campers in K-6th grade rotate through 4-5 activities a day, ensuring there’s never a dull moment. Here’s a sneak peek into the action-packed schedule:

Morning Show: The day kicks off with a bang as campers gather for the Morning Show. Think camp spirit songs, trivia, and friendly mini-competitions. It sets the tone for a day filled with laughter and camaraderie.

Outside Activities: From classic games like capture the flag to relay races and scavenger hunts, the great outdoors become the canvas for boundless adventures.

Gym Activities: Friendly competition takes center stage with activities like castle wars, whirly ball, spud, and the timeless favorite, “steal the bacon.” It’s all about teamwork, fun, and making core-summer memories.

Water Activities: Beat the summer heat in the cooling waters of one of LHP’s two pools. Campers in 1st-6th grade enjoy an hour of pool daily splashing and jumping off our diving boards while your kindergartener enjoys a smaller shallower pool where their feet confidently touch the bottom.

Indoor Activities: Your camper will unleash their creative side with arts and crafts, cabin games, food crafts, glow parties, karaoke, and the nostalgia-inducing shrinky dinks. It’s a haven for budding artists and performers.

Wacky Wednesday Waterslides: As if the week couldn’t get any better, Wednesdays bring the thrill of waterslides and other wacky water games. It’s the perfect midweek splash to keep the energy high.

Special Events: Where the Fun Takes Center Stage

Highlander Summer Day Camps aren’t just about the daily routine; they’re about creating unforgettable memories. Check out these special events that add an extra layer of excitement:

Fun Fridays: The week concludes with a bang as all campers come together for Fun Fridays. Brace yourself for relay races, Minute-To-Win-It games, and an atmosphere pulsating with spirited competition. It’s the perfect way to wrap up the week.

Color War: Imagine a surprise that turns the whole camp into a kaleidoscope of colors. Color War is the epitome of friendly rivalry, with campers and counselors divided into three teams. Daily mini-competitions determine the points, and the team with the most at the end of the week emerges victorious. It’s a spectacle that campers eagerly anticipate every summer.

Tiny Tartans: For the littlest campers in Pre-K, Highlander Summer offers Tiny Tartans—a day camp designed with their unique needs in mind. Certified Pre-K teachers, along with a Senior Counselor and CITs, create a schedule that blends STEM activities, circle time, crafts, gym games, storytelling, playground adventures, water play, and even a little rest time for those active imaginations.
